On behalf of Mrs. Schott, welcome to the Rockledge website and the 2016-17 school year.
Amy Schott is proudly entering her 9th year as the principal of Rockledge Elementary. During her principalship, Rockledge has celebrated many years as a School of Excellence and most recently achieved its 15th School of Excellence Designation. Mrs. Schott was nominated for the 2014 PWCS Principal of the Year and Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Awards.
Mrs. Schott enjoys playing an active role in Rockledge children’s education through participating in weekly teacher instructional planning meetings and by visiting many classrooms each week to know the current strengths and needs of students and staff. Additionally, no doubt a key to student success, Mrs. Schott continuously supports teachers’ professional development in a manner that makes students’ background knowledge and diverse experiences the foundation for all new learning. She robustly pushes for authentic and personally-relevant instruction. Mrs. Schott has high expectations for maintaining a safe and joyful learning environment. Using the OLWEUS program as well as other resources, she leads an aggressive school bullying prevention program which yields consistent results of students and parents identifying Rockledge as a safe place to learn, according to the annual Divisionwide survey.
In addition to high standards for staff and student performance, Mrs. Schott is relentless in efforts to maximize parent involvement in students’ education. As a former Rockledge teacher, she is proud of Rockledge’s long-standing reputation as a strong school-community partnership. She also enjoys leading a school which is noted for being rich in traditions as well as responsive in providing new events to meet the current needs of families. Mrs. Schott wants every parent to know that the Rockledge staff considers parents the students’ best advocates and experts. She encourages regular communication and collaboration with teachers to ensure children are achieving at their highest potential!
Mrs. Schott completed her graduate degree at George Mason University, her undergraduate degree at Texas Christian University, and high school at Minnesota’s Minnetonka High School. She holds certifications in Administration & Supervision K – 12, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, and English as a Second Language. Her personal interests are history, education research, aviation, outdoor activities, playing the flute, and most importantly, spending quality time with her two children and supportive husband.
Mrs. Schott encourages parent involvement in influencing decision-making, so please consider becoming active in ways which are shared with Rockledge parents throughout each school year. She will continue to work closely with staff to ensure you always feel that you are a welcomed member of the Rockledge family.
